Dell replaces displays on nine notebook models

Posted in Planet at 3:27 pm by daynah

Here are some quotes from Dell’s blog regarding the vertical line problem.

Here’s what we’re doing: for affected systems, Dell is offering to replace any LCD that develops a vertical line within three years of purchase, at no charge for parts and labor. Also, Dell will offer refunds to customers who paid Dell to replace defective LCDs with this issue.

To summarize the key criteria:

  • This potential issue applies to Inspiron 9200, 9300 and XPS Gen 2 models only
  • Only these three systems shipped from Nov. 2004 to October 2006 are potentially affected

other systems that are potentially affected. All of these shipped between December 2004 and December 2006:

  • Inspiron 6000 and 8600
  • Latitude D800 and D810
  • Dell Precision Mobile Workstation M60 and M70

YouTube’s TestTube

Check out YouTube’s TestTube! I haven’t had the chance to try it yet, but maybe you can and let me know how well this works. In the TestTube, there are 4 options — Active Sharing, AudioSwap, Remixer, and Streams. The most intersting module for me would be the Remixer, where you can add text, audio, graphics, overlays, effects, and transitions to your videos to make it more professional.

Safari 3 Public Beta

SafariI just downloaded and installed Safari 3 Public Beta. It’s fast and looks pretty nice (and for the first time, available for Windows!) I’m don’t think I’ll switch from Firefox to Safari though. I rely too heavily on my plugins. But I am going to use it to test out my websites.

Undersea Cable Thieves Slow Vietnam’s Internet Access

Posted in Planet at 1:39 am by daynah

Vietnam ComputersMy relatives from Vietnam haven’t been online for a while… and now I know why!

Vietnamese Internet users are experiencing slower service after thieves stole part of the one of the country’s main fiber-optic transmission cables from the sea floor and sold it for scrap. If one more cable is cut, experts say, Vietnam could lose almost all of its telecommunications capacity. – Voice of America News
