First of all I program PHP and I'm a woman, and I like hanging out with like minded people. I started with PHP while writing my thesis and honours project at university, I studied Computer Science. Some how I ended up programming PHP ever since.

I ended up with PHP Women because of a friend I met at our PHPUG here in Dublin, Ireland. He recommended some channels I might like.

In a way I joined PHP Women to stop PHP from being just something I did to earn money. To make it something I was genuinely interested in, and to learn more about it as a hobby.

ALSO now that I actually registered on the forums I should use them more!

I am a woman who codes in PHP Very Happy

I have a degree in Physics and a Masters in CompSci. I've been a software engineer for a long time. My work tends to involve embedded software in C, C++ and Java and because it is quite demanding I avoided software outside of work. Then a little while ago this changed I started using PHP applications such as Wordpress and Coppermine for personal projects. As a softy I wanted to play with the code and so I started learning PHP. I still am.

This site and the IRC channel was suggested to me by BinaryKitten.

I don't want to be part of the competition, but I did want to complete the sentence Smile

"I am a PHPWomen member because it allows me to speak about the latest XKCD, a question on Zend Framework, and an awesome sale at Macy's all in one sentence and to the same group of people."

(In other words, it feels great to be able to relate to a group of geeks on a female level, and a group of females on a geek level all in one fell swoop.)

You all are the best!
E.

I am a php women member because it's a fantastic group full of great people who are always willing to give a helping hand to those like me who are still learning php and often need pointing in the right direction (possibly a never ending task).
I haven't posted on the forums anywhere near as much as I should have but all the threads and discussions on there are extremely helpful.

It's also great to see the stand full of smiling faces at the conferences ready to welcome anyone and everybody Smile

Thanks guys, keep up the good work!

You don't know if you don't try....

I am a PHPWomen member because...
I enjoy coding in PHP and discussions with people who know what being a woman in IT means.

That includes men and women, anyone who has an open mind and open eyes. Smile

Thanks Lorna!

It was a good competition, made me think about why I joined - which I guess was the intention. Smile

I'm sorry I missed the discussions on IRC, looks like that's where I should be in future!
